Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is one of the best sedation options for children. It is both safe and effective, and they usually like calling it laughing gas as just saying the name helps them feel better! This sedation option is perfect for children who have dental anxiety or dental phobia from a prior unpleasant experience. It effectively helps them overcome any anxiety they have from hearing the normal sights and sounds common at dental offices that can be off-putting. This sedative gas is mixed with oxygen and fun “flavored” scents to calm your child while breathing it in and wears off within minutes after we stop the gas flow.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Like laughing gas, this sedation option helps your child calm their anxiety while feeling comfortable. Your child will need to follow the fasting guidelines before their visit so that the sedative can work effectively. Your child will still be awake, just like with laughing gas, however, they will likely feel drowsy and often won’t remember much of their time chairside. You are welcome to sit in the room while your child is sedated and treated.
